SCHOOL PROFILE
Beijing City International School (BCIS) was opened in August 2005 to provide an international education for the expatriate community in Beijing and, uniquely, for the children of internationally-minded Chinese nationals. The vision of the founders sees BCIS as a bridge between East and West. BCIS is a private, not-for-profit, coeducational day school.
The school has purpose-built facilities specifically designed to provide a stimulating learning environment. The campus occupies a substantial site in the heart of the CBD and within one kilometre of the China World Trade Centre. In addition to our spacious classrooms (108 sq m), we have a large gymnasium, a 300-seat auditorium, a running track, 25-metre indoor heated swimming pool, cafeteria and food services, science laboratories, Information Technology facilities, and two libraries. The campus has a capacity of 1200 students.
Enrollment currently stands at 750 students. There are over 50 nationalities enrolled. The school has an open admissions policy for students who can benefit from its programme. Students must either be fluent in the English language or willing to develop fluency through the school’s ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) programme.
The school comprises of three sections: an Early Childhood Center (Toddler through Kindergarten) and an Elementary School (G1 through Grade 5) and an Secondary School (Grades 6 through 12), each of which is headed by a Principal who reports to the Head of School. There are approximately 100 teachers representing 13 nationalities.
BCIS is an IB World School. The school is authorized to teach the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and Diploma Programme (DP). BCIS is a member of the Council of International Schools (CIS), the Association of China and Mongolia International Schools (ACAMIS), and the International Schools Athletic Conference Beijing/Tianjin (ISAC). BCIS has been accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
The new BCIS Early Childhood Center (ECC) is the first educational building in China to be LEED certified (to a Gold Level standard), making it fully green and environmentally friendly and is expected to be open in the summer of 2014.The building located in Shuangjing, near the East Third Ring Road in the heart of Beijing Commercial and Business District (CBD).The address is No. 11 Dongbai Street, Chaoyang District, Beijing.
